With over 200 tickets covering new features, bug fixes and documentation addressed in this release, Portico v0.7 is bursting at the seams. By far and away the biggest and most requested addition is that of native C++ Support. But we didn't stop there!
One of the most requested Portico features has been a C++ interface. Finally, there is no need for developers to live without this. Portico v0.7 introduces a C++ interface for HLA 1.3. This interface covers the same amount of functionality that is currently present in the Portico Java 1.3 interface. Also added during this time has been the beginnings of the 1.3 DLC C++ interface (again, implemented to the same level as currently exists in the Java interfaces).
Coupled with the introduction of a C++ interface for Portico, there are now platform-specific installers available for Windows and Linux. Each installer provides the relevant C++ libraries. A windows installer that bundles an appropriate version of Java has also been made available (windows-standalone).
As part of a push to validate the behavior of Portico, a large unit test suite in both Java and C++ has been implemented. Over time, this suite will continue to grow with Portico and can be used to help any Portico developers identify bugs or other anomalies inside Portico.
This release includes support for the Java classes in the package hla.rti13.java1. These interfaces are most commonly associated with the RTI-NGv3/4/5/6 java bindings. Portico now provides an implementation of them as well.
Much, much more went into Portico v0.7, for a complete listing of the over 210 improvements/bug fixes/new features that were completed, see the ChangeLog.
If Kevin is to be believed, anything is possible. Where "anything" includes you signing up to the Portico announcement mailing list, he may well be right. Is he? Don't let Kevin down. He's a big guy.
